Installation

For more information, see:

Note the system requirements.requirements.

Update

Update existing installations within the openthinclient Management Server.¹

For a description of the update process, read the article Performing an Update.

¹If using the virtual appliance, install a new appliance and migrate the data, at least for major releases.

Updates and Improvements

openthinclient Manager

Default values for ThinClients, applications, components, etc., are now saved as if they've been selected by the user.

For example, when saving a thin client, the system also saves the name of the default kernel. If the hardware type changes later, the system retains the default kernel of the previous hardware type.

Known issues

Update within the Virtual Appliance

After an update, the openthinclient service starts successfully on virtual appliances running 2.3.2 or later, i.e., the version of the openthinclient Manager originally shipped with the appliance is 2.3.2 or later.

If possible, download a new Virtual Appliance and transfer the data using LDIF Export and LDIF Import.Import.

If the above error has occurred, restore the VA by opening a terminal (CTRL+ALT+X) and entering the following commands

sudo systemctl disable openthinclient-manager.service
sudo ln -s /opt/openthinclient/bin/openthinclient-manager /etc/init.d/
openthinclient-Manager
  • The display of assignments may require additional data to show complete information. For example, applications assigned to a user via a user group require a refresh to appear.
  • With the AD connection, the display names of the users are shown instead of the logon names.
  • When renaming a hardware type used by a thin client, the system displays an error message upon saving, even when the operation succeeds.
Citrix

Version 1910 of Citrix Receiver has a list of known issues provided by the manufacturer; it's available on the Citrix website.

FreeRDP

FreeRDP is under continuous development. The developers track all known issues in the GitHub Issue Tracker.
When using Terminal Server ≤ 2008R2, use rdesktop instead of FreeRDP.

rdesktop

Use rdesktop for connections that don't require TLS; see arch-linux-bug.

Display Settings

Like all modern Linux systems, it uses KMS (Kernel Mode Setting). As a result, display port names may change after the update. Adjust the setting in the "Display" device type if required. Alternatively, under "Use specific graphics driver" in the "Hardware type" section, select "Use Xorg-Intel driver" instead of KMS.
