Update

Update existing installations within the openthinclient Management Server.¹

For a description of the update process, read the article Performing an Update.

¹If using the virtual appliance, install a new appliance and migrate the data, at least for a major release.

Updates and Improvements

64-bit OS / 32-bit Support Transition

The openthinclient OS is now fully 64-bit based.

This allows for support of various new applications, plug-ins, and drivers.

The release now exclusively supports 64-bit devices.

UEFI-PXE Boot

In addition to the previous legacy network boot, openthinclient now also supports the more modern UEFI-PXE boot mode — without requiring any special server-side configuration.

Note, UEFI HTTP Boot support is planned for a future release.

For more information, see the Knowledge Base article Network Boot — Methods and Details.

openthinclient OS
The new version, openthinclient OS 2020.2, is based on Debian 10 (Buster). Disable the SSH service on thin clients via the hardware type.
    Citrix
The Citrix client has been updated to the current version 2009. Citrix now offers dedicated support for Microsoft Teams. Zoom plugin for improved video transmission. Update the Phillips driver for SpeechMike (digital dictation) to 12.9.1. Auto-detection for connected devices from Phillips, Grundig, and Signotec. (Auto-detection could be enabled in previous versions — it can now be disabled.)

For information on Teams and Zoom, see the Knowledge Base article Webcams with openthinclient.

For more details, see the release notes from Citrix.

      FreeRDP
The FreeRDP client has been updated to the current version 2.2. The Phillips driver for SpeechMike (digital dictation) has been updated to 12.9.1. Signotec relies on generic USB redirection, eliminating the need for a dedicated driver. Support for UPN logins. Display the host name in the login dialog.

Detailed information can be found in the FreeRDP changelog.

        openthinclient Management Server
New license widget on the dashboard ThinClient management:
Wake-On-LAN button for thin clients Improved log display List of unregistered MAC addresses when creating new entries and managing them Add more context information to forms (ℹ️ buttons).
            Other changes
The Firefox browser has been streamlined out of the openthinclient OS. The VMware Horizon Client has been removed from the openthinclient OS. Display and sound errors now appear on thin clients as balloon messages (top right), and users can continue working without closing them.

              Known issues

              openthinclient Manager
The display of assignments now shows only the current selection; for example, it presents applications assigned to a user via the user group upon request. With the Active Directory connection, the display names of the users are shown instead of the login names. When renaming a hardware type used by a thin client, the save operation succeeds, yet the system still displays an error message upon saving.
                Citrix
Due to a workaround for a bug with the Teams plugin, the connection bar appears in English.

The 2009 version of Citrix Receiver includes a list of known issues provided by the manufacturer; it's available on the Citrix website.

                  FreeRDP
Drivers for Grundig devices are still pending.

FreeRDP is under continuous development. The developers track all known issues in the GitHub Issue Tracker..
When using Terminal Server ≤ 2008R2, use rdesktop instead of FreeRDP.
