Update

 

Update existing installations within the openthinclient Management Server.¹

¹If using the virtual appliance, install a new appliance and migrate the data, at least for a major release.

Updates and Improvements

Network Boot
  • Support for UEFI-HTTP
  • Additional iPXE bootloader for UEFI-PXE, as a secure boot mode
openthinclient OS
  • Kernel update to 5.10
  • Update various hardware drivers to support new hardware.
  • After package update or installation on the server, a prompt to restart appears on all thin clients.
  • The boot server’s IP address is displayed on the thin client desktop.
  • Associate the thin client hostname locally with the IP address obtained from DHCP. 127.0.0.1).
USB permissions
  • Fix: USB devices plugged in before boot now lock as configured.
  • Fix: The system now accepts and recognizes leading zeros when specifying the product/USB ID.
localboot
  • Increase minimum storage size to 8 GB (affects devices that are being reflashed)
Citrix
  • The Citrix client has been updated to the current version 2106 — Citrix Release Info
  • Support for multiple autostart name patterns.
  • Restore support for Grundig devices.
  • Additional options now let administrators limit generic USB pass-through to specific devices.
  • Added option to select USB serial ACM adapters.
FreeRDP
  • The FreeRDP client has been updated to version 2.4.0 — FreeRDP changelog
  • Fix for USB pass-through.
  • Restore support for ProDictate and Grundig devices.
  • Added option for USB serial ACM adapter.
Teams
  • The standalone Teams client has been updated to version 1.4.00.13653.
  • Specify an HTTP proxy and any other command-line options.
Zoom
  • The standalone Zoom client has been updated to version 5.7.1.
  • The language of the Zoom interface matches the language of the openthinclient OS.
Management Server
  • Simplify boot settings in the hardware type to "Fast and Secure".
  • Fix: Assignments to user groups now work
  • Fix: When naming objects, the system now validates characters. /  is now correctly displayed as an error.
  • Improvements for ThinClient management:
    • The thin client overview list shows online status and MAC address.
    • Filter the overview list by MAC and IP address.
    • Use Wake-On-LAN for multiple thin clients in the overview list.
    • The IP address of a thin client appears in the title bar; copy it to the clipboard with a mouse click.
    • The title bar indicates whether the thin client is online or offline.
  • Revise and improve display and storage of client logs.
    • Older log messages are now displayed
    • Note for large installations: Up to 8 MB of log data per client is now stored in the Manager Home.
  • Regularly delete old files:
    • Packages that have not been installed for more than 20 d are removed from the package cache.
    • Delete error reports older than 20 d.
    • Old logs are now reliably removed.
  • Improved behavior for beta versions of client packages:
    • Beta packages appear under Available Packages only when Beta versions are selected.
    • Beta packages are considered as updates only if the package in question is already a beta version (or if the management server itself is a beta version).
    • Display a warning when installing beta packages.
  • Improvements to the user interface, among other things:
    • The hostname and the optional description of the installation are displayed in the header.
    • Display the specific type of an object in the title bar.
    • Improved display and positioning of the "Create New" button in overview views.
    • When creating a new item, sort selection lists.
    • All relevant assignments are displayed.

Known issues

openthinclient Manager
  • When renaming a hardware type used by a thin client, the save operation completes successfully, and the system displays an error message.
Active Directory integration
  • In the openthinclient Manager, the display names of the users are shown instead of the logon names.
  • If the user ID for the login credentials for read access contains umlauts or special characters (non-ASCII), the thin client login requires a compatible character set.
Citrix

The Citrix Receiver provides a list of known issues from the manufacturer (Release Info).

FreeRDP

FreeRDP is under continuous development. The developers collect all known issues in the GitHub Issue Tracker.
When using Terminal Server ≤ 2008R2, use rdesktop instead of FreeRDP.
