CUPS Client

TranslationWith pending.the CUPS client, thin clients can print via a CUPS server on the network. The CUPS server requires Linux and can be managed via a web interface http://<ihr Server>:631 .

Setting up the CUPS server

    Check whether Linux drivers are available for the printer. Free drivers are available for many models; view them in the printer database at openprinting.org. Install a Linux server if one isn't already available. Install the CUPS server — use the packages provided by the Linux distribution.
    Manage the CUPS server/printer under, e.g., http://localhost:631

    A CUPS server is pre-installed in the openthinclient Virtual Appliance.

    Set up the CUPS client.

      Open the Printer settings in the menu and click Add New. Enter a name and select the type CUPS client. If the type isn't available, install the cups-client package. Enter the IP address of the CUPS server. Assign the printer to a thin client or location.

      Specify the printer/queue name on the CUPS server, or leave the field blank to use the CUPS server's default.
