New Functions and Features
Hide Application Icons
All applications now offer the option to hide the application icon on the desktop and in the menu. This option is particularly useful in conjunction with the "Autostart" option.
localboot
With the new update, the localboot application functions independently. After a one-time PXE boot, launch the localboot icon to start the flashing process,
which writes to the CF card, flash card, or USB drive.
The user experience remains unchanged: When the thin client boots, the operating system and program files are loaded from the local storage medium. Only the settings and configurations — which are just a few kB in size, such as screen resolution, assigned applications, and their settings (like the IP address of the terminal server) — are loaded over the network from the openthinclient server.
What’s new is that this configuration data is cached locally on the storage medium. This means that if the thin client cannot reach the openthinclient server — for example, due to a network outage — it simply uses the most recently used configuration. The thin client can thus be used as a standalone client.
ThinClient menu entry for monitor configuration
In the start menu of the booted thin client, a new tool for reading display information is available under Menu → System → System Administration → Monitor Configuration.
It shows the "default resolutions" of the connected monitors. It also displays the names of the ThinClient’s display ports. Use this information to assign a custom configuration to the ThinClient.
Updates and Improvements
openthinclient Manager
- The proxy setting's now available in the openthinclient Manager web interface.
Previously, the setting was configurable only during installer execution and required a manual update.
With this release, it's easily configurable through the web management interface. - ThinClient logs are available again (right-click on ThinClient).
Citrix
The Citrix application package, consisting of Receiver and StoreBrowse, has been updated to the latest version 13.10. A new feature is that when a shared application is closed, the user is automatically logged out of the Storefront server.
FreeRDP
The current version of FreeRDP included with openthinclient supports Microsoft Connection Broker.
Known Issues
openthinclient Manager
The installer verifies that the existing Java version is compatible with the openthinclient Manager. Ensure Oracle Java 8 is installed.
Glamor Acceleration with AMD Graphics (radeon)
Starting with version 2018.1, Glamor acceleration is always enabled by default for AMD graphics cards. If the graphics card lacks glamor support, set the additional kernel parameter glamor=false in the hardware type or directly on the thin client.

localboot Update from versions 2.1-x
To update clients already flashed to version 2018.1 via the built-in update function, first update to the latest previous version (2.1-26), then roll out this update to the clients before installing version 2018.1.
openthinclient Manager
- Use an alternative viewer instead.
- Old ThinClient logs remain on the server and consume storage space. As a workaround, delete old log files manually or through a system scheduler. The log files are located in
<Manager-Home>/logs/

Version 13.10 of the Citrix Receiver includes a list of known issues provided by the manufacturer. Access them here.
FreeRDP
FreeRDP is under constant development. The developers collect all known issues in the GitHub Issue Tracker.
When using a Terminal Server ≤ 2008R2, use Rdesktop instead of FreeRDP.
Desktop — Pulseaudio starts slowly
With certain hardware, the Pulseaudio service may start slowly, which can delay applying sound-specific settings via the Manager. A workaround's being developed.
